These midwinter months are a time to focus on interior containers and house plants that bring color inside, brighten up winter days and create focal points now that holiday decorations are packed away.
To get some inspiration for interior containers I took a field trip to Winston Flowers studio in Chestnut Hill. I met Dana Holland, their garden design sales manager, and three of their designers; Matt McKenna, Dan McGrath and Matt Gilman. They graciously gave me a tour of their amazing space and suggested some great options for sprucing up your home in mid-winter.
They suggested bright green, yellow and chartreuse colors to conjure thoughts of spring and offer a fresh shift from the holiday color palette.

Pencil Cactus has great structure, green to lime green foliage and looks great in a shiny container

Yellow Orchids and chartreuse and white containers look like a breath of fresh air
They also suggested showcasing a spectacular container with a simple plant, to create a calm and structural focal point that can take the place of a Christmas tree.

Hand textured containers with simple monochromatic plantings create a statement

This Selloum Philodendron is a low light house plant with beautiful bold green foliage. I’m adding this house plant to my shopping list!
I loved these ideas and hope you do too!
