This week, I was fortunate to spend a perfect fall day exploring the town of Westport. On Massachusetts’s South Coast; Westport is a little over an hour from Boston, but maintains a peaceful feel somewhere between a seaside and farming community.
After a visit to a new project I’m working on in town, I stopped by (on the recommendation of my new client) the DeDee Shattuck Gallery, a gorgeous contemporary art and outdoor sculpture gallery.
The gallery and grounds, inspired by Quaker design |
At the entrance drive to the gallery you are greeted by two outdoor sculptures. To the left (pictured above) is “New Firefly” by Mark Wholey.
“Twin” |
To the right is a sculpture titled “Twin” by Norman Buck. The curator told me that people have lots of fun names for this piece, from ski jump to quotation marks. I love how the forms sweep up.
“Ballast” |
“Ballast” by Joshua Enck is a weighty sculpture anchoring the path to the front door.
The grounds are well planted with places to sit and enjoy the view |
The gallery will be expanding its outdoors sculpture collection and is featuring a exhibit by UMASS graduate students from October 16th through November 30th. They even have an outdoor picnic planned for October 20th for people to come, explore and enjoy the new outdoor art.
