Plants that can Take the Heat – A Trip to the Ruth Bancroft Garden

I read an article this morning about The Ruth Bancroft Garden in California.  I was fortunate to visit there a few years ago with the APLD Annual Conference.  It is an a amazing, arid garden, featuring the most stunning cacti, agave, and other succulents.  Given the very dry, hot weather we’re having right now, it got me thinking about this fascinating group of plants.

I flipped back through some of the photos I took on my visit and thought I would share them.  These plants are stunning in their form, color and size.  Some of them have showy flowers, but I think it is more their shape and texture that is so unique.  Some of these close up pictures really show off the texture and color of the plant.  And, in some of the full screen photos you can appreciate the impressive size of some of the agave and cacti.

I hope you enjoy this bit of plant eye candy on a hot summer day!
